Transit Journal Guide
Here is a general guide for filling out the journal! We encourage you to make it your own, and to embellish as you see fit. If you are new to astrology, just do your best! This is intended as a tool for those who have a foundation already; breaking down aspects, as well as how to look at and interpret charts & transits are beyond the scope of this guide. However, there are many resources out there! Stay tuned for our resources & education page.
Either way, you will need some kind of astrology software or app, such as Astro Gold, Timepassages, or a website like Astroseek where you can pull up your chart, the current transits and/or a bi-wheel, and traditional tools like Zodiacal Releasing & Profections. Something like the Honeycomb Almanac is also incredibly helpful.
Header
At the top, fill in today’s date, planetary day, planetary hour, and moon phase.

Current Sky
Here, put the positions of the current transits. You can be as specific as you would like, with degrees and minutes, or keep it simple.
For the Moon specifically, I like to look at the degrees where the Moon was when I woke up and my day started, say 10°, and note where the Moon is when I’m actually journaling, say 21°. I would write this as 10°-21°. Then I can fill out all of the aspects the Moon hit in my chart for the full day. As the other planets don’t move as fast, this is an exception.
For the rest of the planets, write as you see fit. I will sometimes opt to skip minutes, but sometimes it’s nice to include. This is just a preference for journaling and what your goal is. Saturn at 0° might be too vague if you’re looking for precision… 0° 56' might be worth noting, as one example, where a slower-moving planet changes how we think. This will become more intuitive as you go!
Note RX if applicable.
There is enough space to the right of this section to get as creative as you want. I like to put the house positions of my chart here, as well as LOTY (lord of the year) next to my annual timelord, but you could also easily add things like the specific AC or MC of the chart the moment you’re journaling.

Transits to my chart
Write each aspect that occurs via transit to your chart. This requires you to either have your chart memorized, or to have some means to look at it visually, along with the current transists. I highly suggest doing them in sequence. Some planets will only make an aspect or two on a given day, whereas say the Moon will often make more. In our example from the last section, the Moon moved from 10°- 21°. Here, you would start by looking for any planet with 10° or above in your chart relative to the transiting Moon. Perhaps you see a sextile at 14° and then a square at 16°, and so on. Make a note of each one in that order. This forms a core practice called “sequencing” where every transit hits your chart in the same order over time, in zodiacal order (unless retrograde).
Again, you can write specific degrees on this side as you see fit; I will often opt to skip writing degrees in this section because I always write things in order. If I know I had the Moon hit a sextile to my Sun and then later a square to Mars, the degrees don’t matter too much, more the story it tells.
I included Venus as an example where I wrote more accurately, "sep" for separating, and the specific degrees & minutes.

Zodiacal Releasing (ZR)
Simple, fill which level 1-4 you are currently in. Huge topic, but I like tracking from Spirit.

Annual & Monthly Profections
For Annual Profections (AP), I simply note the house, sign and ruler aka Lord of the Year.
For Monthly Profections (MP), the house and sign is enough for me!

Notes
Self explanatory! Fill it in as you see fit. As this is a journal, the emphasis is a bit more on recording events rather than predicting, but you can certainly use this to look ahead and make predictions. It’s entirely up to you—they go hand in hand after all!
The aim is to have a resource you can look back through and have clear precedents of real-life transits to draw from and understand. No matter your goal, this journal will strengthen your ability as an astrologer, help you navigate your life, as well as help teach you to predict upcoming astrological events.
I find this section really amazing when I start with the moon and just go down the list. Things start to make so much sense when we can organize things from the bottom up!
